yeah, and he lost , on the right side, one eye, the use of the ear, and half the use of the hand. For him, the germans were tough, but they were enemies and the soldiers who fought them were to be tough too.
and of course, the action where my father has been wounded lasted all day, that means long after he crawled into the house literally "crying from pain".
I have a picture of him after he found grenade schrapnells in this garden, in 1963 !
he is still alive.

Don't apologize.
my father cannot remember how long the last fight lasted. The Germans were throwing grenades from above in this garden and tried to counterattack (in fact,in books, this action is described in only ONE line, like "in the sector , german counterattacks were contained with great difficulties all day long"...my father was wounded after x minutes by grenade schrapnells...

Well, i do apologize, i grew up in europa during the cold war, and it was the russians that were the true enemy of europa, under stalin or any other russian dictator. The German state fought in the last days of ww2 to keep the soviets out of the rest of europa, and they fought wery tenaciously.
I just want to earn respect for the german soldier, regardless of political affiliation.

ok, i do apologize, it seems you're father was a true warrior!

And don't worry for me, I stayed one year in Germany as reserve officier 86-87, and i can tell you that all of us would face the enemy courageously if we should have been engaged against a russian offensive (and we would have been killed or disbanded very soon HA HA !!)
yuppy1967 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
ok, my apologies, but why shoot the surrendering soldiers, of any nationality?
kaa13 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
And then, Operation Anvil-Dragoon, landing in southern France.
and about killing surrendering enemies...you know that war is hell, no ?

In was in Algeria and voluntereed for the navy but war was over inbetween and then he could only be enlisted after "operation Torch", when US and British troops landed, settled in North Africa. Thanks to the US, free french Forces were reestablished and fought in Tunisia against DAK and Afrika Panzerarmee, from 43'.
My father "only" came to the front in Italy in feb.44' till July 44'

Killing surrendering German soldiers? Are you fuckn stupid??? Seems like you're coward of a father was a great warrior, so what was he doing in France in 1940 while france was "learning German"? I guess the Germans were not "surrendering" then, little harder to shoot, right?
You're lucky this country won't give me a passport, I would love to have a drink with you sometime, frenchie. |
